The Blue Cross, one of the oldest pet charities, has launched the nation’s biggest Tea Party for pets. The fundraising event is first of its kind and is largely supported by The UK Tea Council and Bonne Maman Patisserie. The charity aims to combine the love of tea and the passion for animal welfare. The charity will contribute for the thousands of homeless and sick animals at its various adoption centers and hospitals.

The well known actor, Martin Freeman, is also supporting the cause. He said, ‘Archie and I are really pleased to be supporting this event. Tea and pets are two vital elements of the British way of life and must be protected! I’m a great supporter of the work of The Blue Cross and this event will enable them to continue providing care for the thousands of animals that pass through their doors every year. So stick the kettle on and brew up some support.‘ Archie is a dog that the actor rescued.

Up till now some 1,000 people have signed up to support The Blue Cross Tea Party. Blue Cross supporters in Italy, too plan to organize such an event later in the year. The Blue Cross also carried an on-line Tea Drinkers’ Survey, which revealed some interesting facts about the tea drinking habits of Britain’s pet lovers. Most of the Brits want to invite Rolf Harris, followed by Johnny Depp, or even The Queen for a tea party! 41% supporters see a tea party as an excuse to grab some cakes, while 29% see it as a time to relax with their pets.
