Diabetes is normally found in pets between the ages of five and seven years. The main cause is deficiency of insulin. Sugar absorption and utilization is regulated by the insulin. Due to insulin deficiency sugar accumulate in the blood resulting in increased urine production and excessive thirst. It will also increase pet’s hunger but as the body is not able to utilize the stored energy, he loses weight.

Overweight dogs and cats are the common victims of diabetes. Along with diabetes they have to suffer from other diseases like infections and cataract. The only way out is to give extra care to your pet by making sure he is getting enough physical exercise, balanced diet and his dose of insulin as prescribed by the vet.
