Ever wondered why your neighbours canine can race miles and your own dog isn’t even interested in taking a full round of your indoor lawn. No? But the researchers have! And they have found out the reason too. According to them a gene which controls the muscle development makes all the difference. The gene controls myostatin, a muscle protein.

The canines which carry one copy of the mutated gene are the fastest runners in comparison to the canines who carry two copies. The latter became unattractively bulky.
The researchers are now looking forward to find the same gene in humans too, which then may be accredited to the potential of only some athletes to excel.

The team has been studying dogs to find various genes that can be related to various traits. A gene called IGF1 was responsible for making small dogs small as per them. It is believed that the same relates to humans also.
