The truth is we’ve to prepare ourselves to help our pets byte-off the biting cold. If you feel the chill, they too feel it. Don’t leave your pooch outside thinking that the natural fur coat of his will do the job. Though you’ll find more pets succumbing to heat-strokes during summers than to the chilling winters, still they need extra care before the snow play havoc with their lives.
Especially, in case of short-haired pets, we have to be extra cautious. Bundle him up in a sweater or a coat. The salt and chemicals used to melt snow on roads, sidewalks and driveways can damage dogs’ paw pads. Wipe the snow off the paws as soon as you get in. Also keep antifreeze away from your pets reach, just a few drops can take his life.
Make sure that all surroundings in and outside the house is always dry. A small insulated doghouse will be pretty enough to provide enough heat to him. You can even get some other products that can provide warmth like low-voltage heating mats, heated water bowl or even a 100 Watt light bulb can keep the temperature at 38 or 40 degrees, and it’s safe too. And the most important thing is the diet. Some extra calories will keep their body temperature regulated.
Just follow these and I’m sure your pooch will enjoy the cold days.
