Llamas, the kin to camels, flaunt the “Llama Mama” Cheryl Airrington’s pastures like wooly poles. She brought these creatures to get rid of the grass, but now they are the most important members of the family. The carefree beasts seem to be very unusual and unique to be kept as pets. But their popularity has increased manifold in the recent years. California alone has around 2,300 registered llama owners and around 12,200 llamas.
Llama exhibitions have also augmented their popularity. If you want to be a part of one, check out the 10th Annual Llama Show on May 26 to 28, 2006, hosted by Grass Valley at Nevada County Fairgrounds, CA.
Llamas are beautiful, tall and shy. They are ’solitary reapers’. These “field pets” need lot of open space and are a bit cranky too. Better do your homework before getting one. If you can really take care of one, frankly speaking, they are a true fun.
