How would you feel if you’re chained for life? A dead meat isn’t it.
This is what our chained pets feel. Hats off to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA to issue appeals to Limestone County to take dogs off chains. The reaction was instigated by the Nov. 26 incident in which an 11-year-old boy was mauled by a chained dog.
Highly social pets like dogs that need constant attention, companionship, and freedom can become aggressive if chained. As per findings of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention chained dogs are nearly three times more likely to attack than dogs that are kept free.
‘Dogs are members of the family and deserve better than to be chained up like bicycles,’ says PETA Cruelty Caseworker Dan Paden. ‘Local officials will do a good deed for their constituents and for dogs by banning this cruel, dangerous practice.’
Though it is not in the hands of the county to apply the ban immediately but at least a debate with respect to the heinous practice has been sparked by PETA.
