I just can’t understand why pets have again been sidelined with Hurricane Wilma knocking at the door. Palm Beach County, Florida hurricane shelters may not be able to accommodate pets, but the idea to designate one of the schools as pet shelter is also in doldrums.
It’s time to act fast. May be the school authorities are not familiar with the tormenting phase the pets went through during Katrina in the Gulf Coast. Health and sanitation concerns stated by the schools are completely illogical, especially when the lovely creatures will be staying only for a short period of time.

regarding pets people had to leave behind when the hurricanes came — why not find some closed shopping centers stores that might be large enough to accomadate animals? perhaps the owners of the property would donate some closed storefront places for temporary shelters. it would be a humane thing and would benefit communities? a good way to volunteer and help save someones pet!! it might even be their own THINK ABOUT IT!!!! also some good people could help clean up after the temporary shelter wasn’t needed.
