Another US company, Royal Canin USA, the producer of Vets Choice and Royal Canin pet food brands has recalled some of its dry dog and cat foods. The recalled products are believed to have been made with rice protein concentrate also found to be tainted with industrial chemical, melamine.
The rice protein concentrate, is the second found in the US to be contaminated with melamine; the fist being wheat gluten. The food from the company has up till being linked with 30 pet deaths. Company’s South African unit said that tests prove that some of its products which contained corn gluten were also contaminated with melamine. The contaminated pet food has been manufactured from Mar. 8 to April 11. The food led to kidney failure in dogs. Wilbur-Ellis Co, an importer of the tainted rice protein based in U.S. has also recalled its distributed ingredients to five US pet food manufacturers. The company has urged consumers and retailers to recall all such products immediately. Last week Menu foods added another brand of dog food to its lists of recalled products.
