Next time when you buy a pup, make sure to peep into his background first, before finalizing the deal, such as his natural birth state, how he was brought here and the most important of all - his complete medical history. If he’s a smuggled one, it’s not possible for you to know the true story, but still you can avoid loosing him and your money in the future by not buying them from unauthorized pet peddlers.
A large number of pets are smuggled from Mexico and other countries and sold in the US. Most of these pets are sick and hence die or pose health hazards. Even classified advertisements are published to lure the customers, especially the mixed breed ones such as Poodles and also Chihuahuas. These are purchased in Mexico for between $50 and $150 and easily fetch between $300 and $1 000 apiece in the US market.
Though the Border Puppy Task Force has been formed but still the main issue is of owner’s consciousness and awareness. Don’t get trapped, open your eyes and take complete details of the dog or any other animal you are buying from anyone.
