Paul Henderson, chief executive of Menu Foods, has now confirmed that the wheat gluten was purchased from China. As per Menu Foods, the recall applies only to the products that have been packed from December 3 to March 6 and not to all of the cuts and gravy brands regardless of when they were produced.
The Food and Drug Administration said that the investigation into the pet deaths was concentrated on the probability of contamination of wheat gluten. However, gluten itself cannot cause kidney failure.
