The word is gross! If you thought dogs were cute and if you love to mollycoddle them, you should take a look at this little monster. I am a dog-lover myself. However, ever since I saw this weird looking creature, I have had doubts about dogs being the cutest creatures. You might say - much ado about nothing! Well, maybe. This is after all an exception. Not all dogs are born this way. Yet, I have developed reservations. And this dog, the winner of the ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Title, is not the only one of its kind. It is part of a breed that is a cross between Chinese Crested and Chihuahua dogs.
The winner ‘Elwood’from New Jersey weighs just 6 pounds and might not be as dangerous as its looks suggest. Moreover, most of the other competing canines were also Chinese Crested, characterized by their Mohawk (their weird puffed hairdo), bug eyes and a long-wagging tongue. Elwood has been ‘lovingly’ referred to as the ‘Yoda’ or ‘ET’, named after the character in Star Wars that this dog resembles.
The dog has its lovers too. Elwood’s current owner rescued him from his ex-owner who felt such an ugly dog did not deserve to live and was about to euthanize it. She completely dotes on this little creature. And people who have seen his images have begun to adore him. Well, it doesn’t matter if you are ugly. Ugliest, better still! ‘Coz you could walk away with the ‘World’s Ugliest’ Title and a prize money more than $1000, which this mutt has managed to win.
